File Storage App for Busy People on The Go

Most doctors have a hectic lifestyle and are always on the go. Sometimes we see patients in one office, but often we use numerous offices.

Very few of us work out of the same office all the time. Even in this case, though, I believe we need to have cloud-based storage, which makes our busy jobs easier and completing tasks more efficient.

Sometimes when we talk about various research articles among my colleagues on a ward round, I get asked: “do you have that article on hand?”. We then try to find it and share it among ourselves, especially those research articles that are very important. So it’s convenient to have those readily available.

In the past, we had lots of magazines and printed articles on our desk or at home. So we had to remember to find them and share them with others, which was difficult, as we get distracted with so many things during our busy days. By the time you get to your desk and start looking for a particular article, you realise it’s not there, and you’re not sure where it might be.

These days we have the tools of online storage which can hugely help with creating a paperless office and I believe we can operate a paperless office with the help of cloud-based storage.

So which is the best data storage platform?

  • It has to provide you with enough storage space (which can also be increased if required later). Choose an application where you can increase your storage capacity as you go instead of having to change the whole platform.

  • It needs to operate on all platforms that you use. Whether it’s Android, Windows, Mac, iOS - it has to be accessible for when you need to use it. It becomes useless if you cannot access it from a particular device, and you must only use it in a specific way.

  • It has to offer a quick and reliable upload. Making sure that your information is there as soon as you upload it and available on all devices or platforms is the key.

I used to use iCloud, but it took days to sync the files from my desktop to iPad, which became a problem. If you cannot rely on having your data when you need it there, there is no point of using it.

  • It needs to be easy to search for files. The option of quickly finding the required files is important whether it’s searching by tags, titles or folder names.

  • It has to offer the option of sharing files with others. Us doctors often share information, whether it is a single file or a folder - you need to have an easy sharing option. I prefer sharing folders when I do so with my accountant or family.

  • If you need, it should have an option of easy collaboration. If this is important to you, because you collaborate on document regularly and often, I suggest finding a platform with this option.
